MIA ENGINE - UPGRADE / TUNING
Bonjour!
My french is very poor, so I write in english, hope it is not a problem for You here.
I'm from Hungary, and maybe the only MIA owner in the country.
In the slaes brochure of the MIA it was written that it has an 18Kw (24Hp) engine.
But then the car was produced with a 10KW engine, does anyone know why?
Ist it possible to change the engiene to one with bigger power? 18KW or more?
Thank You for all information.
Kristóf

Re: MIA ENGINE - UPGRADE / TUNING
They probably indicated the max power (18kW), while the possible continuous power is 10kW.
If you modify the engine, then you also have to modify the controler, and the battery won't last long (in the lifetime meaning) if you ask too much current, etc...

Re: MIA ENGINE - UPGRADE / TUNING
As I know the MIA the is powered by a Leroy Somer asynchronous motor which will be controlled by Sevcon's state-of-the-art Gen4 size 4 80V 350A motor control.
Regarding my calculations that means a maximal possible cpacity of 28KW or 38HP. So I don't really think, that it wolud be necessary to change the controller for a 10KW stronger engine.
Offcourse, IF! the maximal possible power would be always used the capacity of the batteries would be suffer under that. But, if You would dirve the car like normal it won't make a big difference I think.

Re: MIA ENGINE - UPGRADE / TUNING
If you drive the car "like normal", you don't need more power.
Driving a Mia is now a chalenge, especialy the 8kW.h model. Don't try to create any brake down yourselves, you will have enought work to make it turn correctly as it is today.

Re: MIA ENGINE - UPGRADE / TUNING
I can only agree with all previous answers!
If you want a more powerful engine, buy another car... Even if it's quite hard to get off a mia.
KristofDN, you're very welcome in the Mia community on this forum. Gé, one more in the "Qui roule en Mia?" subject. We'll be able to place you on owners' map in hungaria: just tell us where, after a brief introduction about you in that subject
