Zero SR/F Recalled for Loose Rear Brake Rotor Bolts

Zero Motorcycles is recalling just over 400 units of the 2020 Zero SR/F sport bike because their rear rotor bolts were insufficiently tightened at the factory.

Because the loose bolts may damage the caliper or swingarm, and thus could reduce rear braking capability and increase the risk of a crash, a recall has been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

According to the recall documents, Zero Motorcycles investigated the bolts used, the production processes and torque values.

They confirmed that all the bolts were installed using Loctite and were being torqued to 10 lbs•ft, which was the specified torque value.

As a result of their review though, Zero concluded that the torque was insufficient, and we increased their specification to 26 lbs•ft. This change in manufacturing process was implemented on December 19, 2019.

To remedy the issue for the affected bikes, Zero dealers will correctly tighten and replace the rear rotor bolts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 25, 2021.

Concerned Zero SR/F owners may contact Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. Zero’s number for this recall is SV- ZMC-020-417. As always, the NHTSA is also available at 1-888-327-4236 and safercar.gov
